The Pittsburgh Steelers are experiencing their first true bye week since Week 7 of the 2019 season. Even though they are not preparing to take the field this weekend, the Steelers still end up in the news as outside linebacker T.J. Watt has been selected as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

On Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks, T.J. Watt was credited with seven tackles, three of which were for a loss. Additionally, Watt logged two sacks, both in overtime, three passes defensed, and a forced fumble which lined the Steelers up on Seattle 16 yard line for their game winning field goal kick. On Watt’s first sack, which occurred on the Seahawks opening drive of overtime, Watt forced a punt as he threw Gino Smith for a 13-yard loss and pushed the Seahawks back over midfield.
On the season, Watt has seven sacks through five games as he was inactive in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals due to a groin injury.
A finalist for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year the last two seasons, this is the fourth time T.J. Watt has been selected as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week. The last time Watt brought home the award was in Week 2 of 2020 against the Denver Broncos when he had 2.5 sacks.
