The Pittsburgh Steelers’ roster currently looks more like the fluid offseason roster, but the team continues to made additions and subtractions with both the trade deadline looming and their Week 9 game vs. the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.
On the same day the Steelers traded Melvin Ingram to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2022 6th Round draft pick, they have made the corresponding move of promoting Taco Charlton to the 53-man active roster.
But the moves weren’t done there. On top of the promotion of Charlton, the team announced they are signing kicker Josh Lambo to their practice squad. This comes with the signing of Khalil Davis, which broke late Monday night, becoming official.
To make room for both Lambo and Davis on the 16-man practice squad, the Steelers released defensive lineman Chris Slayton.
We have made the following roster moves:
— Pittsburgh Steelers (@steelers) November 2, 2021
• Added LB Taco Charlton to the 53-man roster
• Signed K Josh Lambo & DT Khalil Davis to the practice squad
• Released DL Chris Slayton from the practice squad@BordasLaw https://t.co/og6V8yZM9H
The Steelers are hoping they won’t have to use Lambo as their kicker at Heinz Field on Monday night, but with Chris Boswell dealing with a concussion Lambo is an insurance policy. Considering the game is being played on Monday night, the extra day could result in Boswell being cleared to play for the team’s next regular season contest.
Josh Lambo entered the NFL with the San Diego Chargers in 2015. After two seasons with the Chargers, Lambo spent the last five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his career, Lambo has appeared in 78 games with a field goal percentage of 87.1% and an extra point percentage of 89.9%. Lambo had not made any of his three field goal attempt in 2021 with the Jaguars and was five of seven on extra points before being released.
The trade deadline is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, so be sure to stay tuned to BTSC for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers if they make any more moves prior to the deadline.
