The Steelers have a 6–1 record when wearing the color rush uniforms with every game being at Heinz Field. The Steelers won their first five match ups wearing the black jerseys with gold numbers up until Week 15 of the 2019 season when the Steelers fell to the Buffalo Bills before getting back on track in 2020 with a victory over the Baltimore Ravens. On a positive note, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has never tasted defeat while wearing the Steelers color rush uniform.
One of the most famous games in which the Steelers wore their color rush uniforms was against the Baltimore Ravens on Christmas Day in 2016. The Steelers were set to wear their color rush uniforms for a holiday game against Baltimore again in 2020, but the Thanksgiving night matchup was postponed until the following Wednesday afternoon due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the Ravens organization.
While there isn’t necessarily anything magical about these uniforms, it does generally signify the importance of the game. Being one of two matchups the Steelers will host on Monday Night Footbal this season, the other being Week 17 against the Cleveland Browns, the Steelers are breaking out the all black uni’s with gold numbers for the eighth time in six seasons.
