Steelers Injury Report: Chris Boswell able to practice in a limited role on Thursday

Being able to practice in some capacity puts Boswell in a situation where he could clear the concussion protocol by Monday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a big AFC North win on the road and have an extra day to prepare to face the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. As the Steelers take the practice field for their first time of the week one day later than usual, only five names were on the injury list. In the first injury report of the week courtesy of the Steelers PR department, there were four players who were limited and one who did not practice.

One of the players who participated in a limited capacity was kicker Chris Boswell who left the Steelers game late in the first half on Sunday with a concussion. Being in the NFL concussion protocol, Boswell first has to perform limited physical activities before moving on to eventually be cleared. By practicing in some fashion on Wednesday, Boswell at least has the possibility to progress through the protocol in time for Monday night’s game.

For the second straight week, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger participated in a limited fashion during the first practice of the week. Last week the Steelers were coming out of the bye and therefore Roethlisberger had some extra rest. With an additional day of rest before practice resumed on Thursday, Roethlisberger did participate in a limited fashion and is still listed with a pectoral/hip injury.

The player who missed practice for the Steelers was tight and Eric Ebron who is still dealing with a hamstring injury. Showing up on the injury report last Thursday, Ebron has not practiced since and was ruled out early for the Steelers game in Week 8. Ebron’s progression through the week will be the biggest indication of his availability for Monday.

Another veteran who found himself limited on Thursday was defensive captain Cameron Heyward. Listed with an ankle injury, Heyward spoke with the media on Thursday and did not seem to be concerned about his availability for Week 9.

The last player on the injury report is reserve offensive lineman B.J. Finney who is listed with a back injury. Being limited, it’s unsure if Finney was dealing with a previous injury that held him out of a few parts of practice or if he suffered the injury during practice and it could be more severe. In this case, Friday’s injury report will be very telling as to the expectations for Finney‘s availability for Monday night.

As for the Bears’ injury report, you can see the names below from Thursday’s practice courtesy of Steelers.com.
