Anthony McFarland Jr. inactive in Week 9 for the Steelers against the Bears

With the Steelers back to carrying three tight ends, they reverted to only having three running backs active.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released their inactives for their Week 9 matchup against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. With one players already ruled out due to injury, one who was questionable but active, and having one player elevated from the practice squad earlier on Monday, there are five healthy scratches of the six players on the list. No. 3 QB Dwayne Haskins
No. 26 RB Anthony McFarland
No. 25 CB Ahkello Witherspoon
No. 45 LB Buddy Johnson
No. 72 T Zach Banner
No. 85 TE Eric Ebron

Tight end Eric Ebron was ruled out on Saturday and will miss his second-straight game of the 2021 season. Last week the Steelers chose to roll with only two tight ends, but for Week 9 they activated Kevin Rader from the practice squad.

The other player on the injury report was guard B.J. Finney with a back injury. Limited in practice on Thursday, Finney did not practice on Friday before returning as limited on Saturday. Listed as questionable, Finney is active for Monday night, and instead the Steelers once again have tackle Zach Banner on the inactive list.

As for the players who were healthy scratches, Dewayne Haskins is inactive for the eighth-straight game. Others on the inactive list are familiar names as the Steelers have cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon inactive for the sixth-straight game and seven of the eight games this season. After getting a helmet in Week 2 due to the injury to Joe Haden, Witherspoon has been back on the inactive list ever since. For the fifth-straight week, Buddy Johnson finds himself on the inactive list as all the inside linebackers are healthy.

The final player on the Steelers inactive list is running back Anthony McFarland Jr. The Steelers did not have a running back inactive throughout the 2021 season, even with return of McFarland from the Reserve/Injured List in Week 8. The Steelers chose to carry an extra running back last week in favor of only two tight ends. With the elevation of Kevin Rader, McFarland is inactive on Monday.
