Ben Roethlisberger finally meets with Art Rooney II, meeting “went well”

Fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers had been wondering when management and Ben Roethlisberger were going to finally sit down to discuss the future plans of the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

It was reported this meeting was supposed to happen at the beginning of the month, but everything coming out of the Steelers’ camp has been quiet. So quiet you could hear crickets on any news or sourced information.

That all changed on Tuesday when Ben Roethlisberger met with team president Art Rooney II. This per Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

Dulac doesn’t just add how the two parties met, but also how the meeting reportedly “went well”. Of course this leaves the meeting open for interpretation.

How did the meeting go well? Did Roethlisberger say he will sign an extension to give the team must-needed salary cap space? Did Rooney give Roethlisberger an ultimatum as for his future with the team?

No one knows, but we do know the two have finally met and started the negotiation/discussion pertaining to Roethlisberger’s future with the team.

If you are wondering if Roethlisberger also met with Mike Tomlin, it is highly unlikely considering Tomlin reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently doing everything virtually. This doesn’t mean Tomlin didn’t meet with Roethlisberger virtually, but he wasn’t present for the meeting Tuesday.

This was step one for the Steelers and Roethlisberger to hopefully come to some middle ground prior to the start of the new league year. That common ground might end up being Roethlisberger’s retirement, or a new contract to lower his dead cap hit for the upcoming season.
