The moment the Pittsburgh Steelers named Mike Sullivan their quarterbacks coach I thought to myself, how much this hire will affect the reclamation project that is Dwayne Haskins. We already know what Ben Roethlisberger is going to bring on the field. In year 18 I’m certain Sullivan won’t be teaching that old dog any new tricks. Mason Rudolph will also take some steps under the influence of having an experienced voice in the room. But the coaching style and history history of Mike Sullivan is everything Haskins needs to right the ship.
New Steelers QB Coach Mike Sullivan is an Army veteran. Kudos and he has my attention. Sullivan served as the Buccaneers OC from '12-'13, Giants QB Coach from '10-'11 and '15. He was the Giants OC from '16-'17. .

For starters, Mike Sullivan comes from a military background. He attended West Point, served in the 25th infantry division, and would later return to West Point as both a coach and recruiter. From his past alone you can assume discipline, work ethic, and focus would be held in the highest regard. When you reflect that to Dwayne Haskins’ time in Washington you will quickly notice he lacked all three of those things.
From the parties, to COVID-19 violations, and questions surrounding his on-field habits. We already know Haskins is a troubled young quarterback desperately needing guidance. I truly believe Haskins has it in himself to turn it around. Take last offseason for example, the Football Team tasked Haskins with getting in better shape, and when he reported to camp he was down 7% body fat. On top of that, Haskins spear-headed organizing offseason workouts with his teammates. He would ultimately be named a team captain for his actions. Poor on field performance seemingly knocked Haskins off his positive path and from the outside it appeared as though Haskins was exiled by Ron Rivera and company almost immediately.
Ryan Leaf feels the Steelers are a much better system for Haskins. They will hold him accountable and hold the mirror up to him. #Steelers

The Steelers, Mike Tomlin, and now Mike Sullivan will give the former first round pick a stable base to work on himself as both a passer and a person. There wasn’t a better team for Haskins to wind up with than in Pittsburgh.
At the end of the day, bringing Haskins in was nothing more than a no-risk flyer on someone with all the arm talent in the world. The Steelers will provide him with all the tools he needs to allow him to reach his full potential. At worst, he’s cut and never heard from again, at best he becomes the next quarterback of this great franchise.
