The Pittsburgh Steelers have been handling the early stages of free agency as they always do. Even with limited salary cap space, which isn’t new for the Steelers organization, they make some strategic early moves, then they sit back and see what happens.
This season, those strategic moves were signing Cam Sutton, B.J. Finney and Zach Banner. After that, they, like their fans, were keeping tabs on who was coming, and going, from their own free agent list.
They watched Bud Dupree, Mike Hilton, Matt Feiler and Tyson Alualu all jettison via free agency, but big names still remained in limbo. The biggest remaining name was wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Earlier Thursday, it was reported by Ian Rapoport how the New York Jets were in talks with signing Smith-Schuster.
Nonetheless, shortly after this news broke, Mike Garafolo reported how the Steelers are still in the running for Smith-Schuster’s services in 2021.
While @RapSheet says the #Jets have conversations with JuJu Smith-Schuster, the #Steelers haven't closed the door on a return and have remain engaged in the situation the last few days. Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion...

Smith-Schuster will have to be making a decision sooner, rather than later, and it seems as if he might have multiple offers to choose from in the coming hours. If he returns to the Steelers, it will be interesting to see how the contract is structured.
Will it be a one-year deal, or a long term deal with money spread out throughout the back end of the contract? Even if Smith-Schuster goes elsewhere, it will be intriguing to see how he compares to other receivers who got paid in free agency.
It seems as if this is coming to a head, and news can be expected on this front throughout the day. With that said, be sure to stay tuned to BTSC for the latest news and notes surrounding the black and gold as they prepare for the rest of Free Agency and the 2021 NFL Draft.
