Nothing drives the needle around the NFL much like the Pittsburgh Steelers. If the NFL offseason is going slow and a national sports coverage site needs to boost their page views, simply publishing a story blasting the Steelers, or taking a shot at Ben Roethlisberger, will certainly get things turned in the right direction.
We’ve seen these narratives plenty so far in the 2021 offseason. From Ben Roethlisberger not being able to throw the ball farther than 10 yards to the receivers unable to catch the ball regardless of how far Ben has to throw it, there’s always something that seems like it’s going to keep the Steelers from winning a single game in the 2021 season.
So what’s going to be the next narrative? What will be the story driving the needle for the sites to try to take down our beloved Steelers another peg? Here are my top three predictions of the next national story line in order to try to get Steelers fans in a frenzy.
Mike Tomlin is living in his fears and refuses to come out of his basement
What many around the NFL have failed to realize is it the Steelers Wild Card loss last January sent head coach Mike Tomlin over the edge. Unable to cope with the Steelers late season collapse, Tomlin has been holed up in his basement since the middle of January and has yet to emerge.
So who was giving interviews during the NFL Draft? And who has been out on the field at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex for both rookie mini camp and organized team activities?
It’s simple. Tomlin merely hired his doppelgänger Omar Epps to fill-in for the time being.
Looking at this opportunity as basically an audition for The Life Story of Mike Tomlin, Epps has been behind all the major decisions for the Pittsburgh Steelers over the last several months. After appearing as running back to Darnell Jefferson in The Program over 25 years ago, abs was happy to fill-in for Tomlin merely to seek revenge and force Steelers rookie Najee Harris to carry a football with him around the city of Pittsburgh.
Unlike the first play the fourth quarter of the Steelers postseason loss, Tomlin simply decided to “go for it” in offering Epps the role. Being able to pull off this ruse for this long worked perfectly. That is, until recently when Epps reached out to his former on-screen Coach James Caan to try to get some advice in handling his players at OTAs, and to see if he happens to still have Halle Berry‘s number.
The Steelers defense can’t be half of what it was after the loss of Ola Adeniyi
The Pittsburgh Steelers defense has been one of the very best in the NFL over the last few years. Putting crazy pressure on the quarterback and finally coming up with turnovers the last two seasons has the defense carrying the torch in the Steel City.
But 2021 is not going to be their year.
Is it because of the losses of Bud Dupree, Mike Hilton, and Steven Nelson? Although they may hurt, the Steelers will be able to overcome these things. What everyone knows is the Steelers can’t overcome is there lack of depth at the outside linebacker position. Having one of those depth pieces also departing for the Tennessee Titans, the Steelers simply can’t overcome the loss of Ola Adeniyi to their defense.
Already branded a special teams ace, Adeniyi has now moved into legendary reserve outside linebacker status. His loss will be simply too much for the Steelers overcome in 2021 as the defense will crumble and plummet to the bottom of the league.
Will Canada’s offense work with American football?
We all know that our neighbors to the north play a different style of football with all kinds of cockamamie rules. Seriously, eh? A one-point play?
The Steelers are bringing these kind of philosophies to their offense for 2021 with their implementation of “Canada‘s Offense.” Will these new schemes work in the American version of football? Only time will tell, but you can be sure every Steelers game will be seen somehow at Tim Horton’s each and every Sunday.
With so much emphasis placed on Canada, BTSC deputy editor Michael Beck becomes the new expert on what Canada can bring to Pittsburgh. After a little thought, Michael deems the Steelers offense a shoo-in for the Super Bowl in February so long as the Steelers add one more free agent in the coming weeks regardless of whether or not he is on offense or defense.
So there are my top three guesses of the next narrative which will be pushed about the Pittsburgh Steelers. In all seriousness, there was no seriousness here.
