The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the 2021 regular season, but before the real games begin, the team has to head to training camp to fine tune their skills. As we here at BTSC prepare you for the start of camp, we give you a series called “30 Scenarios in 30 Days” which gives you a Steelers scenario every day leading up to the start of camp.
It is simple how it works. We provide you the scenario, reasons why it will or won’t happen, and then our prediction for what we think will take place.
Let’s get to the scenario...
Scenario: The Steelers will have a great home field advantage in 2021
2020 Home Record: 7-1
Why it will happen: The Steelers had a great home record in 2020, and there is no reason to think that will change in 2021. In fact, when you consider fans being permitted at full capacity this season you would think Heinz Field would have an even stronger home field advantage this season. Let’s face it, last year with no fans was depressing and certainly didn’t have much of an advantage for playing at home. Nonetheless, there is no reason to think the Steelers will slip when it comes to their home field advantage in 2021, when referring to overall wins.
Why it won’t happen: This scenario is based around wins and losses. The Steelers were 7-1 at Heinz Field in 2020, and those opponents outside of the division will be different in 2021. Therefore, predicting the Steelers being better than 7-1, obviously with nine home games this year with the 17 game schedule, must be based on opponents. When you look at who the Steelers play at home this season, it is easy to see them taking a step backward with their home record...fans in seats or not.
Prediction: For an accurate prediction for this scenario, we must look at who the Steelers play at home in 2021. What I decided to do was to simplify this scenario and go through and put a W (win) or L (loss) next to the opponent in 2021.
Let’s see if they’ll finish with a record similar to 2020:
Having the extra game makes this difficult, and before fans head to the comment section bemoaning me predicting them beating all of their divisional opponents at home, know I only see them sweeping the Bengals. In other words, I think they’ll split with the Ravens and Browns, losing on the road. Nonetheless, a 7-2 home record would still be outstanding for the black and gold!
