The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the 2021 regular season, but before the real games begin, the team has to head to training camp to fine tune their skills. As we here at BTSC prepare you for the start of camp, we give you a series called “30 Scenarios in 30 Days” which gives you a Steelers scenario every day leading up to the start of camp.
It is simple how it works. We provide you the scenario, reasons why it will or won’t happen, and then our prediction for what we think will take place.
Let’s get to the scenario...
Scenario: The Pittsburgh Steelers will improve their AFC North record in 2021
Steelers 2020 AFC North Record: 4-2
vs. Ravens - 2-0
vs. Browns - 1-1
vs. Bengals - 1-1
Why it will happen: Many, myself included, view the AFC North as one of the toughest divisions in the NFL, but when I think about how the Steelers compete within the division I see room for improvement. I don’t necessary believe the Steelers will sweep the Ravens for a second straight season, but I also don’t see them being swept by anyone either. Can they improve from 4-2 to 5-1, I absolutely could see it happening. While Cincinnati will be improved, I have a feeling the Browns are being set up for a let down. The Steelers could sweep both teams from Ohio in the regular season and split with the Ravens. That’s a 5-1 record within the division.
Why it won’t happen: As stated earlier, the AFC North is expected to be the most difficult division in all of football, and it won’t be easy for the Steelers to improve upon their 4-2 record. Could they sweep Cincinnati? Absolutely, but you could realistically suggest the Steelers could split with all three teams, equating to a dull 3-3 division record. The Bengals, Browns and Ravens will all be improved in 2021, and it isn’t a secret the Steelers will have some question marks across their roster. It will be tough sledding in the AFC North for another year, but what else is new?
Prediction: I’m sure a vast majority of readers looked at the above scenario and laughed at the team improving upon their 4-2 record. As stated above, it could happen. No one thought the Steelers would sweep the Ravens in 2020, and no one saw the team dropping a game to the Bengals. Stranger things have happened, but I don’t see them taking a step forward in 2021 with their division record. In fact, I see them staying exactly the same. My predictions have the Steelers splitting with the Ravens and Browns, while sweeping the Bengals. You guessed it, another 4-2 record against their division opponents.
