Welcome to the Steelers Trifecta! Over the 30 days leading up to the Pittsburgh Steelers 2021 training camp, we will be highlighting three players every day in order cover the entire 90-man offseason roster. So without further ado, here are today’s three players:
John Leglue
Position: Offensive Tackle
Age: 25
Year: 1
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 301
Drafted: UDFA 2019 (Broncos)
College: Tulane
Roster Outlook: Very unlikely
Analysis:
After spending the majority of the 2019 season on the New Orleans Saints practice squad, John Leglue was picked up late in the season his rookie year by the Green Bay Packers. Failing to stick around beyond training camp of 2020, Leglue was not on an NFL roster or practice squad despite the expansion in 2020. The fact he was available for the Steelers to sign in late December to the practice squad doesn’t give me much hope for Leglue to make the roster in 2021. His best bet is to impress during the preseason to make the practice squad again.
Isaiahh Loudermilk
Position: Defensive End
Age: 23
Year: 1
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 293
Drafted: Round 5, Pick 156, 2021
College: Wisconsin
Roster Outlook: Very likely
Analysis:
Loudermilk is as close to a lock as a fifth-round draft pick can be going into his rookie season. The fact the Steelers gave up a fourth-round draft pick next season to draft Loudermilk in 2021 should allow him to stick on the roster despite the defensive line room being very crowded. Hopefully Loudermilk‘s actual play on the field will put him on the Steelers 53-man roster and not simply his draft status.
Cassius Marsh
Position: Defensive End
Age: 28
Year: 8
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 254
Drafted: Round 4, Pick 108, 2014 (Seahawks)
College: UCLA
Roster Outlook: Very likely
Analysis:
Although he’s listed as a defensive end on the Steelers website, Cassius Marsh is an outside linebacker. The fact that the Steelers are very thin when it comes to depth at this position makes Marsh almost a guarantee to make the roster unless the Steelers add more players. But do the Steelers really want Marsh to be their ‘next man up’ in 2021? Hopefully he can bring his skills to special teams but will not be needed to play on defense except in garbage time.
