The Pittsburgh Steelers are back at it again as they prepare for Week 2 of the NFL preseason at Heinz Field against the Detroit Lions on Saturday. With only two practices remaining with fans in attendance, training camp is winding down this week. Still, we will be compiling as much information as to what is going on at practice as we possibly can.
Check out the information below as the players continue their preparation for the 2021 season. If any additional information or reports become available, they will be updated below.
Looks as if the Steelers will "carry their pads" today, as Mike Tomlin might put it. I realize that could be confusing, because if you're carrying pads, you aren't wearing them. But in his parlance, it means they'll have the pads ON, not off. And I am back from vacation. Hello.

Diontae Johnson, Minkah Fitzpatrick the first Steelers on the field today. Guess they haven't been released.

Rookie center Kendrick Green is back for the Steelers today after being excused by Mike Tomlin the last two pracices.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 17, 2021
Antoine Brooks catching balls off the juggs machine with the rest of the defensive players, but he's still in shorts while everyone else is in full pads.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 17, 2021
TJ Watt still not in pads. Guess that deal isn't done yet.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 17, 2021
Marcus Allen not in pads today.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 17, 2021
Looks like all Steelers are here and accounted for at Heinz Field, ahead of the first round of roster cuts at 4 p.m. That means 90 dogs for 85 bones in today's practice. Turn it up!
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 17, 2021
Looks like Kendrick Green will be back out with the first-team offensive line today. Mike Tomlin can put off making that announcement as long as he wants. The team's commitment to Green seems apparent.

Clouds have been threatening this afternoon, and the rain finally starts to fall at Heinz Field.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 17, 2021
ILB Marcus Allen is not practicing today. Meanwhile, TE Eric Ebron, who didn't practice Sunday, is back.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 17, 2021
Marcus Allen is not dressed for practice. Stephon Tuitt doesn't appear to be on the field.
— Joe Rutter (@tribjoerutter) August 17, 2021
For the first time this training camp, the projected starting line is playing together:
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 17, 2021
LT Chuks Okorafor, LG Kevin Dotson, C Kendrick Green, RG Trai Turner, RT Zach Banner
Joe Haden is back at practice. Arthur Maulet is playing in the slot. Antoine Brooks Jr. indeed is not practicing today.
— Joe Rutter (@tribjoerutter) August 17, 2021
Steelers going directly into team drills without doing Seven Shots. Oh, the humanity!
— Joe Rutter (@tribjoerutter) August 17, 2021
Mason Rudolph gets the second snaps at quarterback behind Ben Roethlisberger.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 17, 2021
While Arthur Maulet got all the Steelers' first-team reps at slot cornerback, the other main candidate for that position is running sprints on the side. Antoine Brooks hasn't practiced since the Hall of Fame Game.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 17, 2021
Isaiahh Loudermilk a little shaken up. He is limping off.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 17, 2021
Rudolph airs one out to Anthony Johnson, who beat Devin Bush to make the catch.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 17, 2021
Offense now running some scout-team stuff against the defense -- prepping a little for the Lions. Rudolph ran against the first-team defense. Haskins is running the scout team against the second-team defense.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 17, 2021
Ben Roethlisberger just hit JuJu Smith-Schuster on a deep ball with a whole lot of air yards. Justin Layne and Tre Norwood in coverage, generously speaking.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 17, 2021
Both Snell and Ballage back today and getting carries before Jaylen Samuels
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 17, 2021
Kendrick Green struggling a bit with Tyson Alualu in one-on-ones. Good challenge for him after losing some ground in the second preseason game.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 17, 2021
Melvin Ingram is absolutely feasting on Joe Haeg in one-on-one reps. Beat him with back-to-back spin moves.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 17, 2021
Tuitt is here, but in street clothes.

Roethlisberger is dealing today. Hits Ebron on a deep crosser for a big gain. Later rolls to his right and throws a 20-yard out to Claypool on the move for another arm strength throw. Arm strength is not an issue.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 17, 2021
Josh Dobbs getting no snaps today at QB as the Steelers are simulating an in-season practice. It has been all Ben, Rudolph and Haskins, in that order.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 17, 2021
Chase Claypool went down and remains down after he fell trying to catch a long pass. He is being helped off by Ben and Ebron. Heading straight to the locker room.
— Ray Fittipaldo (@rayfitt1) August 17, 2021
Tomlin did not give an update on Claypool. He said he’s being evaluated. It happened on the second to last play of practice.
— Ray Fittipaldo (@rayfitt1) August 17, 2021
#Steelers WR Chase Claypool did not suffer a significant injury in practice today, sources say. Major sigh of relief for Pittsburgh. We’ll see what the resulting diagnosis is but definite relief after how it looked.
