The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially started to trim their roster, and this layered approach is something new for the organization.
In years past the Steelers would wait until the last minute and release their cuts to get their roster to 53 players. This year the team has announced the release of nine players.

The list of players released are as follows:
TE Marcus Baugh
RB Tony Brooks-James
CB Shakur Brown
WR Anthony Johnson
S Lamont Wade
WR Matthew Sexton
CB Lafayette Pitts
DT T.J. Carter
OG Malcolm Pridgeon
The Steelers roster now sits at 71 players, with more looming cuts ahead. The Steelers have until Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET to get their roster to 53 players.
There is a strong chance the Steelers will bring back many of these released players on the 16-man practice squad. But the players have to clear waivers before they can be signed back into the organization.
Will the Steelers make more cuts before the Tuesday deadline? That has yet to be seen, but be sure to stay tuned to BTSC for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the 2021 regular season.
