The Pittsburgh Steelers are continuing their preparation for the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday night. With fans scheduled to be in the stands for the last time before Thursday night’s game, there should be plenty to report about practice. And when the Steelers are on the field, we will be compiling as much information as to what is going on at practice as we possibly can.
Check out the information below as the players continue their preparation for the 2021 season. If any additional information or reports become available, they will be updated below.

New Steelers RB Tony Brooks-James is at practice wearing 40. Do not see Benny Snell for the second day in a row. Eric Ebron, Zach Gentry and Ray-Ray McCloud are not practicing. Zach Banner is again today.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 3, 2021
Zach Banner is lining up at RT for seven shots. Dan Moore still at LT.

Ill describe training camp practices for you all: Drill, drill, drill, stretch, drill, drill, drill, 7shots, drills, football plays, drill, drill, drill
— Mark Kaboly (@MarkKaboly) August 3, 2021
Steelers line up for 7 shots goal-line drill and the first play is intercepted. By outside backer Alex Highsmith. Do I need to tell you that wasn’t Ben’s finest throw?
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 3, 2021
Ben Roethlisberger and the starting offense bounce back with two touchdown passes to Diontae Johnson and Pat Freiermuth. Good throws. Mason Rudolph’s No. 2 unit goes 1 for 2. Dwayne Haskins and Co. 1 for 2, with an INT by UDFA corner Mark Gilbert.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 3, 2021
Another win for the defense in 7 shots.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 3, 2021
Roethlisberger intercepted by Highsmith on his first throw.
Rudolph went 0-2. First one, incomplete to James Washington, next one, would've been sacked by Uly Gilbert.
Haskins 1/2 - intercepted by Duke's Mark Gilbert on his last throw.
Chase Claypool just loves owning guys in 1-on-1 drills. The other day he pancaked Justin Layne in a blocking period. Just now he put Tre Norwood on the ground with a stiff-arm. Mike Tomlin giving these guys plenty of competition reps two days before first game.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 3, 2021
Melvin Ingram just took a pass route rep as a tight end vs. fellow edge rusher Jamir Jones. Lambo Mel won and caught the pass.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 3, 2021
Trainers looking at Najee Harris. Something with his right shoulder.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 3, 2021
Harris was working in one-on-one passing drills against linebackers and after his rep immediately went to the sideline and took a knee -- rest of the team is at midfield. Trainer John Norwig went over and Harris was flexing his shoulder. He has now rejoined his teammates.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 3, 2021
And Harris is right back in there taking the first handoff in team 11-on-11 run.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 3, 2021
It looks like Pat Freiermuth injured a shoulder. He's out and has an ice bag on his right shoulder.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 3, 2021
Highlight of the day:
— Chris Adamski (@C_AdamskiTrib) August 3, 2021
Derek Watt with a 1-handed catch about 20 yards downfield wide open off a bullet of a pass from Dwayne Haskins in 11-on-11s
Another reception 25 yards downfield today for Derek Watt, this time a one-handed grab with the left hand from Dwayne Haskins off play-action in “team run” period. Watt may or may not have finished it off at the goal line, but we’ll give it to him.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 3, 2021
Derek Watt getting even more reps than yesterday with rookie TE Pat Freiermuth out of uniform and his left shoulder taped up. Freiermuth doesn’t seem too concerned though. Just chilling on the sideline.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 3, 2021
Steelers run drill ends with rookie UDFA slot corner Shakur Brown forcing and recovering a fumble against new running back Tony Brooks-James. Second takeaway in three practices for Brown.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 3, 2021
If punt-offs are your thing, there's a fun one going on at Heinz Field. Pressley Harvin III vs. Jordan Berry.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 3, 2021
Sheeeesh @DerekWatt34 pic.twitter.com/gzTFavdGQG
— Pittsburgh Steelers (@steelers) August 3, 2021
Seemed to me like Berry and Harvin are in a pretty tight competition. Definitely one to keep an eye in actual preseason games.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 3, 2021
Pressley Harvin III's leg certainly is impressive. Anecdotally to my untrained eye without any stopwatches, Harvin out-booted Jordan Berry in terms of distance during drills today punting from near their own goal line.
— Chris Adamski (@C_AdamskiTrib) August 3, 2021
Cam Sutton with a beautiful interception of Roethlisberger in 11-on-11. Tips pass along the sideline up in the air intended for Washington, catches it and gets his feet down in bounds.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 3, 2021
Dr. Bradley looking at TE Pat Freiermuth on the sidelines along with trainer John Norwig. Freiermuth had once on his shoulder. He went to the ground hard after making a catch earlier in practice.
— Ray Fittipaldo (@rayfitt1) August 3, 2021
Freiermuth doesn’t look to be in great discomfort but looks like he is done for the day.
— Ray Fittipaldo (@rayfitt1) August 3, 2021
The Dwayne Haskins-Derek Watt connection has been a strong one today

Steelers rookie left tackle Dan Moore Jr. has gotten in a couple scraps this camp, but says, “No fights today. … It’s the competitive spirit of football.” He says everything is good in the locker room with himself and the defensive guys. pic.twitter.com/a1fnWx6cBR
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 3, 2021
Asked if he feels like it’s an open competition for the backup quarterback job with Mason Rudolph, Dwayne Haskins says, “I’m trying to make it one.” Adds that he feels like he’s been auditioning to be the Steelers QB of the future since he got here.
