The Pittsburgh Steelers have concluded their preseason schdule but are still operating in traing camp mode. Waiting to start their Week 1 game prep until practices next week, head coach Mike Tomlin once again spoke to reporters following practice on Monday. Even though it was fairly brief and little was said/released about the skirmish at the end of practice, there was still enough to look at the players mentioned by Coach Tomlin during his media time. Remember these are current players where a specific question was asked during the Q&A period.
Dan Moore Jr., Chuks Okorafor, Joe Haeg, & Zach Banner
There was some shuffling around of the tackles in practice on Monday with Dan Moore Jr. getting snaps at left tackle and Chuks Okorafor sliding over to the right. Coach Tomlin was asked if this option was something he was experimenting with for Week 1, and in his response he also brought up tackles Joe Haeg and Zach Banner.
“He’s versatile. Dan Moore is versatile. Joe is versatile. Everybody really plays right and left other than Banner. And so, we’re just going to keep working our versatility in an effort to put our best available group together, and we’ll determine at a later date what that is.”
Coach Tomlin was asked a follow up question about if he is more comfortable with Moore on the left side than the right side.
“I hadn’t assessed it in that way. Really. I’m just giving them days to work on both sides and then at a later date we’ll assess what works best for him. And if we need him, then obviously we’ll use him.”
Stephon Tuitt
Steelers fans are still patiently awaiting to hear if defensive tackle Stephon Tuitt will be ready for the Steelers first regular-season game on September 12. Coach Tomlin was actually asked about the health of Zach Banner, but his response also mentioned Tuitt.
“I’ll give you guys an injury report next week. On Banner, Tuitt, and others that you’re going to ask about.”
