The hate of Mason Rudolph

It seems to be trending, this hate for Mason. I for one don’t get it. Over the years there have been many haters of all

things Steelers, from Tomlin, to Randy, to Big Ben and I can at least understand that hate a little. At least most of the players/coaches that fans hate on have a big enough body of work to hate. Mason I don’t get. Here is why:

He is still young and learning. He has had minimal game experience because a hall of famer sits in front of him. And yet when he has been given opportunity to play he has done a nice job. Big Ben had a great defense and running game to supplement his growing pains. While we have a similar defense we haven’t been exactly killing it in the running game.

Last year Mason was called upon one time to start a game. All he did in that game was throw for 324 yards and throw two touchdowns to one interception. Because of this performance he is hated on? We aren’t talking about Landry Jones here. This is actually a guy who has shown improvement along the way.

Maybe it is because of his 2019 season. The one where Ben was hurt. Didn’t we have a winning record until Mason got blown up in the Baltimore game by Earl? Is that why the hate? Because we were finding ways to win with a young QB?

Maybe it’s because he has been a good teammate and says all the right things. No off field nonsense. Maybe that is why the hate.

Don’t get me wrong I like Haskins and Dobbs as well. I am not sold on any of them being the next franchise QB but I think all of them have certain attributes I can appreciate. I don’t have hate for any of them. I’m just at a lose for why so many are hating on Mason and the noise keeps getting louder. Seems a little premature and odd to me. Maybe someone can enlighten me on here.
