The Pittsburgh Steelers have finally filled out the remaining spots on their 90-man preseason roster after placing two players on the Waived/Injured List prior to Thursday’s Hall of Fame game. After previously being spotted at practice, the Steelers have announced the signing running back Pete Guerriero.

Guerriero played collegiately or FCS Monmouth University. In three years for the Hawks, Guerriero rushed for 3,974 yards and 39 total touchdowns. In his final year of 2019, Guerriero rushed for 1,995 yards with 18 rushing touchdowns as well as 336 receiving yards on 32 receptions and two touchdowns. Guerriero was selected as the 2019 FCS Running Back of the Year.

Going undrafted in 2020, Guerriero was signed by the New York Jets as he was on and off the roster throughout training camp. Failing to make the 53-man roster, Guerrero landed on the Carolina Panthers practice squad briefly before returning to the Jets practice squad for the remainder of the 2020 season. Despite being signed to a Reserve/Future contract in January, Guerriero was released by the Jets in May.

Clocked at his pro day at 4.49 seconds in the 40-yard dash, Guerrtero’s speed allowed him to break several long runs in college. Unfortunately, at 5‘10“ and 190 pounds, Guerriero was considered undersized for the NFL.

With an open spot on the roster, Pete Guerriero was added by the Steelers without the need for a corresponding roster move.
