The Pittsburgh Steelers are back at it again as they prepare for Week 1 of the NFL preseason in Philadelphia against the Eagles next Thursday. With fans scheduled to be in the stands, there should be plenty to report about practice. And when the Steelers are on the field, we will be compiling as much information as to what is going on at practice as we possibly can.
Check out the information below as the players continue their preparation for the 2021 season. If any additional information or reports become available, they will be updated below.

Steelers are in pads today
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Zach Banner jogging onto the field in full pads for Steelers practice. He had the day off yesterday. Could be a big day for the OL to work together?
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 9, 2021
Looks like no pads for TJ Watt though, suggesting another individual drill-only day.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 9, 2021
Chuks Okorafor also "dressed out," as they say in some football beat writer circles, again today. And so is Devin Bush after sitting out yesterday. Looks like it'll be a good practice for participation, and it is very hot outside.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 9, 2021
Stephon Tuitt back in camp today. He had been missing the past two days. Still not in pads.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Kalen Ballage still not practicing for the Steelers. No Ray-Ray McCloud, either.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Few day-to-day guys remain out for the Steelers: RBs Benny Snell and Kalen Ballage, plus DB Antoine Brooks.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 9, 2021
Watching the Steelers WR group, Ray-Ray McCloud is sidelined again today. Also don't see James Washington, who left yesterday's practice early and had a wrap on his right leg. As we all know, that's the only thing going on right now with Washington.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 9, 2021
Update: Benny Snell is here, but starting off on the exercise bike.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 9, 2021
Ben Roethlisberger has been late putting on pads, but he usually warms up in a white tank on those days before pulling on his pads and jersey.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 9, 2021
Today, he's wearing the jersey over a shirt with a black hood, talking to Matt Canada on the sideline during warmups.
I would say Ballage doesn't look like he's all that injured. He was just running on the sidelines. Probably misses this week's game and back for the Lions in two weeks.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
To be clear, Roethlisberger is on the field. He's just not "on" the field in pads.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Ben Roethlisberger is not practicing today and Mason Rudolph is taking first-team reps in 7 shots.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 9, 2021
Seven shots offensive line is Chuks, Coward, Green, Turner and Banner from left to right
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Najee Harris just dragged Melvin Ingram into the end zone on 7 shots. They're in pads and Ingram looked like he was tackling full strength. Najee was just stronger.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 9, 2021
Harris bulls through a tackle attempt of Melvin Ingram into the end zone on the second play of Seven Shots. Rudolph threw incomplete on the first attempt. Tossed a TD pass to Diontae Johnson on the third. Ingram jumped offside on the play.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Seven Shots continued Haskins incomplete to Anthony Johnson. Buddy Johnson in coverage. Haskins incomplete to Rico Bussey with James Pierre in coverage
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Dobbs inside flip to Jaylen Samuels for a TD. Tiebreaker from Dobbs to Ebron broken up by Mark Gilbert. Defense wins 4-3.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Today during contact individual drills, TJ Watt is working to the side with a trainer, picking up a VERY large medicine ball and throwing it backwards, over his head.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 9, 2021
The move looks like his signature sack celebration, except he's throwing a heavy medicine ball in the air.

— Pittsburgh Steelers (@steelers) August 9, 2021
First team period in pads and Rashaad Coward is still at LG.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 9, 2021
Anthony McFarland for a 4-yard gain on the first run with live tackling.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
We got a UDFA scrap. Rico Bussey, wideout, and Mark Gilbert, cornerback, just got into it a bit through the whistle. It's 90 degrees outside.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 9, 2021
Diontae Johnson and someone had a little dust up in the two-on-two passing drills. Roethlisberger stepped in and pulled Johnson out of there. But it was over quickly.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Happened twice. Rico Bussey and Mark Gilbert have both been taken out of this team run drill, and are now, officially, "on sight" until further notice.
— Brian Batko (@BrianBatko) August 9, 2021
The defense by far had the advantage in the team run period. Offensive line got man-handled, running backs got drilled pretty consistently.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 9, 2021
Second-team nickel has Mondeaux and Loudermilk at DT. No Wormley
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Second-team OLBs are Marsh and Jamir Jones
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Justin Layne with a PBU of a poorly thrown ball by Haskins. Too far inside for Bussey.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Good recognition job by Marcus Allen to blow up a screen.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Allen and Buddy Johnson are the second-team nickel linebackers.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Josh Dobbs connected with Cody White on his first attempt in a team passing period. White's been sidelined with injury for a good stretch of camp, but Steelers clearly saw something in him and wanted to keep him around.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 9, 2021
With James Washington and Ray Ray McCloud not practicing, WR Anthony Johnson is getting first team reps. JuJu Smith-Schuster has been standing on the sideline during this team period.
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) August 9, 2021
Zach Banner pulled himself out of a live drill. Joe Haeg replaced. Banner down on one knee on the sideline. Now back up. Looks to be OK.
— Dale Lolley (@dlolley_pgh) August 9, 2021
Meant to say “none” of the usual wideouts, but I stand corrected, because Chase Claypool just hobbled off. Seems OK on the sideline though.
