The Pittsburgh Steelers have made several roster moves the past 48 hours. After trimming their roster to the league-mandated 53 players, the team then had to wait for players to clear waivers so they could assign their 16-man practice squad roster.
In case you missed the announcement of the practice squad, check it out in the link below. Spoiler Alert: The Steelers only assigned 15 spots, leaving one spot open.
Of those 15 players, five of them were from other NFL organizations. With that said, it seemed fitting to give Steelers fans a glimpse of the players they have waiting in the wings for their opportunity to be on the team’s active roster.
Steven Sims, Wide Receiver
Sims spent a short time with the Buffalo Bills before being released. He spent two seasons with the Washington Football team putting up 61 receptions for 575 yards and a total of seven touchdowns. He also added a kickoff return touchdown while in Washington.
Derrek Tuszka, Linebacker
Tuszka was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He spent time on their practice squad and active roster in 2020. He played college football at North Dakota State where in four seasons he started 34 of 53 games and recorded 133 tackles, 42 tackles for loss, 29.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and six pass defenses.
Christian Miller, Linebacker
Miller was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and played in seven games his rookie season. Miller was an opt-out of the 2020 season based on the COVID-19 pandemic. He was released by Carolina on the final cuts of the 2021 season.
Daniel Archibong, Defensive End
Archibong signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2021 NFL Draft. He played his college football at Temple where he had 89 tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble and eight pass defenses.
Karl Joseph, Safety
Joseph played for the Cleveland Browns last season. He played in 14 games in 2020, starting eight, and tallying 66 tackles, four pass defenses and an interception. He added two fumble recoveries. Joseph is a former first-round pick of the Oakland Raiders in the 2016 NFL Draft, 14th overall selection, out of West Virginia University. He has played in 49 career games, starting 41, and had 249 tackles, four interceptions, three sacks, 16 pass defenses, three fumble recoveries and a forced fumble. As a rookie he was named to the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team, starting nine of 12 games played, with 58 tackles, six pass defenses, an interception and fumble recovery.
