Welcome to the Thursday Kickoff of Week 1 of the college football season. A few games have already been played, but as always my schedule has been full with work and everything related to daily life around the Iddings household. I can’t think of a better place to discuss this year’s NFL draft hopefuls than BTSC. I hope everyone is safe and doing well.

There are are 15 games on the schedule tonight, but the game that I’m going to watch will kickoff an early start to the Big 10 campaign. The 4th ranked Buckeyes of Ohio State will travel to Minnesota and take on the Golden Gophers at 8PM on FOX. Looking at the Steelers and what their needs will be for the upcoming season is always up for debate, but I have a feeling with the possible losses of JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Washington, there may be a need to invest in that position group.

Ohio State has a pair of extremely talented pass catchers in Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. Minnesota’s defensive backfield will have their hands full trying to cover both of these young men. As of now, both are projected as mid-first round draft prospects. I know we have had success without using first round picks on the position but these two are worth keeping an eye on.

Chris Olave #2 - 6’1” 189lbs - Combines speed, burst and tremendous footwork. Solid as they come in route running and creating separation.

Garrett Wilson #5 - 6’ 180lbs - Some of the same attributes that his running mate possesses but Wilson takes it one step further. He has the ability to really highpoint the football and make some amazing contested hand catches. Amazing body control as well.

For Minnesota there really aren’t many note worthy prospects, but there is one giant of a man in Daniel Faalele who stands at 6’9” and weighs just south of 400lbs. He plays Right Tackle for the Gophers and shouldn’t be hard to find. It is a good opportunity for the young man as Ohio State has some decent EDGE Rushers. There is obvious power but he can surprisingly move for a a man that size. He will struggle with speed but for a team looking for a man power scheme mauler in the run game he is worth a look.

I will do my best to provide these throughout the college season. We are getting closer to some Steeler Football!
