When the Pittsburgh Steelers play a team like the Cincinnati Bengals, an AFC North rival, there is not a lot of uncertainty surrounding the matchup.
Sure, fans know the big name players from their division foe, but a lot can change from one year to the next.
With that said, I reached out to Cincy Jungle’s contributor Patrick Judis and asked him a series of questions about the upcoming game. He was more than generous to provide answers to these questions, and in this article I asked him what the Bengals’ defense plan to counter the Steelers defense in Week 3 will be.
How will Jessie Bates and company try to slow down Ben Roethlisberger and company?
Check out his answer below, and be sure to follow Cincy Jungle for the latest news and notes from the other side of the fence leading up to the game at 1 p.m. ET.
When the Steelers have the ball, how will the Bengals try to slow them down?
Defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo has done a pretty good job of mixing up his pressure looks. There are plenty of times where he even drops the edge defenders back into coverage to catch the quarterback off guard. Also Hilton gets mixed in to that pressure package as well.
Jessie Bates patrolling the deep passing game should always be Roethlisberger’s biggest concern if he even thinks of going down field as well as he remains one of the best safeties in the NFL.
When it comes to the Steelers’ offense, any defense will likely cause them problems. The Steelers’ offensive line has been more than an issue in recent weeks, and the Raiders’ 10 quarterback hits was a reason why Ben Roethlisberger is nursing a pectoral injury heading into Week 3.
When you throw in Jessie Bates patrolling the deep secondary, this won’t be a cake walk for the Steelers offense. In fact, I’d call it a tremendous test.
