The Pittsburgh Steelers were losers vs. the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3 at Heinz Field, but they didn’t just lose the game, they also lost more players to injury. When you look at the notable injuries heading into the Week 3 game, you couldn’t imagine it could get worse.
T.J. Watt (groin)
Alex Highsmith (groin)
Diontae Johnson (knee)
Nonetheless, it did get worse. The Steelers lost the following players to injury during the Steelers’ Week 3 game.
Chukwuma Okorafor (concussion)
JuJu Smith-Schuster (ribs)
Kendrick Green (knee)

Chuks Okorafor - concussion and in protocol
JuJu Smith-Schuster - ribs and being evaluated
Kendrick Green - knee
The severity of these injuries isn’t known as of yet, but the Steelers are a team which is reeling both on and off the field.
Throughout the game vs. the Bengals, the Steelers became dangerously thin at both wide receiver and outside linebacker. Cody White, who was called up to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, ended the game with two catches for 17 yards, one being a clutch first down conversion. Ray-Ray McCloud, who was thrust into the lineup with Chase Claypool cramping and Smith-Schuster’s injuries, three catches on four targets for 33 yards.
Defensively, the Steelers turned to Jamir Jones and Derrek Tuszka to help fill the void for both Highsmith and Watt. Tuszka accounted for two tackles, 1 solo, and Jones just one tackle and one solo tackle.
The Steelers now prepare for the Green Bay Packers in Week 4 at Lambeau Field, and they will need to have all hands on deck if they want to pull out the win and advance their record to 2-2. Either way, be sure to stay tuned to BTSC for the latest news and nots surrounding the black and gold as they prepare for the rest of the 2021 regular season.
UPDATE
Early signs of the Kendrick Green knee injury are that it isn’t serious. If Green wouldn’t be able to play next week, center duties would shift to J.C. Hassenauer.
This per Brooke Pryor of ESPN:
C Kendrick Green's knee injury doesn't appear too serious. Initial evaluation shows he's dealing with a bone bruise on his left knee, per source.
