Timing of Minkah's signing reminds us FA shopping season is not over

The signing of Minkah Fitzpatrick has some people speculating whether the Steelers will lock up DJ of Boz next. Homer says the timing may signal something entirely different.

Omar did this early not to work on next year, but to win this year. He paid Minkah now - and got Minkah to go along and not string this out - so that he knows right now how much cap money he still has to go out and sign a trench monster and/or LB.

Remember what Vince Williams tweeted yesterday when he learned of Minkah's signing...

Steelers players historically take less money than they are worth on the open market. Speaks volumes to the work environment. Solid front office, great head coach, players want to play there.

Vincenzo nailed it. Minkah took a team-friendly contract. Myles Jack signed in a flash, took a team-friendly contact and almost surely left money on the table to play for Tomlin and Flores. Homer has been saying since the Flores signing that FA's will Go with the Flo. And he has been saying that free agency isn't over as far as the Steelers are concerned.

Another thing: Minkah had to clean up the mess last year caused by the Steelers weaknesses up front. That's why he had 93,000,000 tackles. He and Omar both know that Tuitt's retirement adds urgency to the need to strengthen the front seven. That may be help explain why Minkah didn't want to drag this out any longer.

Free agency isn't over. Not by a long shot. One, maybe two major FA signings are comin' up soon. That's why they took care of family first. Now that Minkah's signed, they will shore up the trenches and LB and have 5 mil ready for cut-down day and in-season.

The Steelers' free agent shopping season continues, and the universe is unfolding exactly as it should.
