Pittsburgh Steelers' starting left guard Isaac Seumalo has officially been ruled out for Week 13’s contest against the Arizona Cardinals with a shoulder injury the team announced. Backup guard Nate Herbig has taken his place at left guard — marking his first snaps at the position this season.
Herbig was previously tasked with duties at right guard in Weeks 4 and 5 this season, as starting RG James Daniels missed time with a groin injury. In those two weeks, Herbig allowed a team-high nine pressures, including eight hurries and a sack.
Herbig played his first three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles before being released and subsequently claimed by the New York Jets ahead of the 2022 season, playing right guard throughout his career.
Herbig signed a two-year, $8 million contract with the Steelers to open up free agency back in March of 2023. He was one of several offensive linemen to show some versatility on the offensive line this offseason, helping cement his spot as a backup. Herbig played snaps at left guard, right guard and center in limited action before suffering a shoulder injury that kept him out through the remainder of the preseason.
