More Draft Thoughts

As we continue the final process of Pro Days and setting up the 30 interviews. I seen some possible revealing tells about the final process.

The first thing that came to mind is the Texas Pro Day visit. There are a handful of potential prospects at Texas and some fit into the needs category like the interior defensive line, with Coburn and Ojomo. Throw in Overshown who may possess complimentary skill set to the recently signed FAs at ILB. But why did we send Merrill Hoge, former RB to Texas. It wasn't for Bijon Robinson although I could envision him in the Black and Gold but not at pick 17 and I don't see him lasting to 32. Instead it was to take a closer look at Roschon Johnson. He was Robinson's back up and more than held his own when giving opportunities. Size and vision blended with a decent all around game. In a comp I would say Lev Bell lite. He has an overall projection around the 4th. I wouldn't hesitate to give him a shot as a return man.

There's a guy still flying under the radar and in my opinion, was snubbed from the combine. Karl Brooks brings a unique blend of quickness off the snap along with coordinated movement skills. He will no doubt get knocked for his level of competition and his arm length but all I ask is watch the tape. The Steelers sent the Defensive Line Coach Karl Dunbar to take a closer look. We need to reinvest in talent along that front and Brooks could be part of that. Has recently moved up boards but still isn't getting the respect his play deserves, I had him in the 4th in the early part of the process and he continues there for me now, possibly pushing into the comp picks of the 3rd. Besides he and Dunbar carry the same first name?

I really like Will McDonald and I was extremely pleased to see the contingency that went to Iowa State Pro Day. Something could be said that they had interest in Xavier Hutchinson as well but with the Defensive Coordinator on hand in one Teryl Austin, I'm confident it was for the long limbed EDGE Rusher. The young man could fly right into our laps at pick 32 and I would be ecstatic if that were the case. Also had an extended meeting or dinner with him.

I encourage everyone that has seen something that caught their attention to either post here or create a Fan Post. If you haven't I would highly recommend reading Kansas City Steelers and Kiwi's posts, along with a few others.
