The NFL continues to rule television, according to Variety’s list of the 100 most-watched telecasts of 2023. The Pittsburgh Steelers proved to be a ratings draw in primetime, with three games appearing on the year-end rankings.

#16) Sunday Night Football: Steelers vs. Raiders (Week 3)

More than 19.3 million people watched the Steelers defense hold off the Raiders in their first matchup in Las Vegas, almost as many viewers as the Oscars (the year’s biggest non-sporting event). Kenny Pickett threw two touchdowns in this game, including a 72-yarder to Calvin Austin.

#28) Monday Night Football: Steelers vs. Browns (Week 2)

15.6 million people tuned into ABC on Week 2 to see some of the Steelers’ greatest defense feats of the season. This game started with an Alex Highsmith interception for a touchdown, and climaxed with TJ Watt’s game-changing scoop and score.

#50) Thursday Night Football: Steelers vs. Titans (Week 9)

The Will Levis hype peaked this week, causing nearly 11.6 million to watch this matchup on Amazon Prime. Kwon Alexander put an end to his heroics with a game-clinching interception in the fourth quarter. This game also saw Diontae Johnson’s touchdown drought end after nearly two years without finding the end zone.

To add some context to these rankings, 56 of the top 100 slots went to sporting events, including 45 NFL games, six NBA Finals games, and three March Madness matchups. The Kansas City Chiefs made the most appearances with eight, including five in the top ten, with Super Bowl LVII topping the list, and the AFC Championship game coming in second. As far as the AFC North goes, Cincinnati makes five appearances, but three of them occurred during last season’s playoff run. Baltimore shows up three times, including last season’s playoff game against the Bengals.
