Pittsburgh Steelers’ safety Damontae Kazee will return to the team after being suspended for the remainder of the regular season in Week 15 after a hit he laid upon Indianapolis Colts receiver Michael Pittman Jr.

The Steelers had to go to the free agent market in light of Kazee being suspended, as Minkah Fitzpatrick, Trenton Thompson, and Elijah Riley were all battling injuries. Luckily for Pittsburgh, Eric Rowe has stepped up in that safety spot, as has Patrick Peterson, who embraced the transition to safety and has played his part well.

Kazee spoke out about his suspension, and was surprisingly understanding of the whole situation.

“I don’t think I should have been suspended, but we had an understanding up there,” Kazee said. “I know why I got suspended. it wasn’t for the penalties this year, it was from my NFL career.”

Kazee has a history of hits to the head and neck area, being fined five times this season.

The Steelers will certainly be happy to have him back, though. Depth in the secondary is a welcome addition to this team as they head into the Wildcard round where a matchup with the Buffalo Bills awaits them.
