How prepared are the Steelers for the future of the QB position?

The Pittsburgh Steelers QB position is certainly a major talking point heading into the offseason, but how will the team address it?

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback situation, from top to bottom, is certainly a major talking point as the team heads into the offseason.

Of course everyone is talking about Ben Roethlisberger’s comments about potential retirement, but for the sake of this article/podcast, let’s assume Big Ben will be under center next season.

Most would assume this would answer the main question of the team’s quarterback position, but the reality is it is just the beginning.

Landry Jones, the backup for the past four seasons, is set to become a free agent. While most fans can’t wait to see Jones land somewhere other than Pittsburgh, you can’t deny the fact he is a solid backup quarterback. In fact, he is a lot better than most NFL teams deploy at their backup quarterback position.

What about after Jones?

The team picked up Zach Mettenberger off waivers from the Chargers before the 2016-2017 season, but Mettenberger didn’t even seen a preseason snap, let alone any regular season action.

All of this begs the question, what are the Steelers going to do to address the situation of quarterback depth heading into 2017-2018? Do they re-sign Landry? Do they stick with Mettenberger and look to draft a quarterback as the QB3 on the team?

A lot to discuss, and I give my thoughts on what the Steelers should do, and my prediction on what they will do in the podcast player above. Simply click play to give the 10 minute show a listen.
