Podcast: Gauging just how improved the Steelers defense could be in 2017

In the latest edition of the Steelers Mailbag, we answer some burning questions surrounding the 2017 Steelers defense, and more.

NFL: Oakland Raiders at Pittsburgh Steelers Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

On this episode, Jeff Hartman, editor of BTSC, talks about a wide variety of topics as he dives into the mailbag to answer three burning questions surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers as they prepare for the 2017 season.

Check out the answers he gave to these burning questions in the audio player above, and feel free to answer them yourself in the comment section below:

  • What is taking the NFL so long on the Martavis Bryant situation? Should fans be worried?

The Steelers stud wide receiver is like a thoroughbred which is penned up and not allowed to run. What are the odds Bryant has taken another misstep and will miss time in 2017? Not likely.

  • How many, and which, WRs make the 53-man roster?

Assuming they keep six receivers, and Sammie Coates is capable of playing, who stays and who goes? With the emergence of Justin Hunter, this debate just got real for some players.

  • Where will the Steelers Red-Zone and pass defense rank this year?

In 2016, the Steelers Red-Zone defense was one of the best in the NFL, and ranked 5th giving up a touchdown 48.8-percent of the time. In terms of pass defense, they didn’t do as well, ranking 18th and surrendering 246.1 yards per game. What are the odds the team improves in both of these categories?

My answers can be found in the podcast above, and again, feel free to put your answers in the comment section below!
