Sun reporter Aaron Wilson writes:
According to the indictment, Rice allegedly did "cause significant bodily injury to Janay Palmer, and/or did purposely or knowingly cause significant bodily injury to Janay Palmer and/or under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, did recklessly cause significant bodily injury to Janay Palmer." Rice is seen on video hitting Palmer. Both parties were charged with assault initially, but, according to Wilson, Palmer's charge was dropped later.
A guilty plea would likely lead to a suspension from the NFL. The Ravens open the season with consecutive division games, Week 1 vs. Cincinnati and Week 2 vs. Pittsburgh.
Rice is coming off his worst season in Baltimore as the Ravens rushed for some of their lowest totals in franchise history. Upon hiring offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, a zone running guru, the Ravens look to re-establish the ground game.
Based on the video, it's possible they may need to account for a Rice-less running game for their first week or two.
