Police raided a Mount Washington home owned by ex-Steelers cornerback Deshea Townsend Sunday, arresting two men and seizing 1,500 bricks of heroin and over $100,000 in cash and jewelry.
Two luxury vehicles and a live chicken were also reportedly on the premises.
The report was first posted by CBS Pittsburgh KDKA, and it confirmed Townsend owns the home, but was not a part of the bust. There is nothing more on the connection of the two men arrested at the home - Price Montgomery and James Perrin - and Townsend.
Townsend, the cornerbacks coach at Mississippi State University, played 10 of his 11 NFL seasons for the Steelers, winning two Super Bowl rings after being the team's fourth round pick in 1998.
Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward was a third round pick in that draft, and the two became good friends, having roomed together during training camps until Townsend's departure in 2009. He played his final season with the Colts, before becoming the Arizona Cardinals' assistant defensive backs coach under ex-Steelers defensive coordinator Ray Horton.
Townsend finished a solid NFL career with 21 interceptions and 15.5 sacks, having filled in as a starter as well as a nickel back in his Pittsburgh career. Perhaps his career highlight, Townsend intercepted a Tony Romo pass late in the fourth quarter, returning it for a touchdown and sealing the Steelers' comeback win over Dallas in Week 14 of 2008. The Steelers scored 17 unanswered points to seal the win, one of several close games the eventual Super Bowl champions would pull off that season.
He had a brief run-in with the law in 2007 when he was charged with simple assault in conjunction with a bar fight in Pittsburgh. Charges were eventually dropped.
