Steelers offer restricted free agency tenders to three players

The Steelers' spending bonanza continues, in a manner of speaking.

They offered tender contracts at the original round level for Will Johnson, Robert Golden and Antwon Blake, meaning the team has the right to match any offer given to them by another team.

The Steelers would receive no compensation if they chose not to match an offer any of them would receive.

Johnson's role has changed over the last two years. He plays H-back as often as the traditional fullback, and with the Steelers having re-signed veteran tight end Matt Spaeth, it will be interesting to see what the Steelers do with his role in 2015.

Golden was the team's special teams captain in 2014, and excelled in kick coverage the last two seasons. He hasn't made much headway in terms of developing as a safety but has found a niche covering kicks.

Blake stepped into an active role this past year, largely due to injuries and ineffectiveness from Ike Taylor and Cortez Allen. Blake stripped Bengals receiver A.J. Green of the ball late in their Week 17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, arguably the biggest defensive play of last season for Pittsburgh. The win gave the team its first division championship since 2010.
