Report for @Steelers: Troy (knee), Shazier (ankle), Shamarko (hamstring), Ventrone (hamstring), and Worilds (abdomen) miss practice— Bob Labriola (@BobLabriola) November 5, 2014
It would be a bad time for the Steelers' surging defense to be without one of its best players.
Steelers outside linebacker Jason Worilds missed practice Wednesday with an abdominal injury. It wasn't previously reported as being anything significant, but it does add some intrigue to an otherwise expected list of players missing practice.
Strong safety Troy Polamalu (knee) and linebacker Ryan Shazier (ankle) have already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the New York Jets. If Worilds is unable to play, the Steelers would be forced to experiment with other combinations of players, given they'd be without a backup.
It's still early in the week, and with two practices left before the Steelers leave for New Jersey for the game, Worilds may not miss any more time. Given how well the Steelers' defense is playing and the fact they'll already be down two starters, this might create an issue.
The absence of cornerback Ike Taylor from the injury report is intriguing as well. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Taylor would practice a bit this week and it isn't certain whether Taylor will miss his seventh consecutive game.
