Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is one of the most outspoken supporters of the Heads Up program - a youth football initiative sponsored by the NFL to teach proper tackling technique.
Perhaps Tomlin is trying to educate Bengals safety Reggie Nelson, who's hit on the knee of Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell has left the Steelers' team MVP up in the air for the Steelers' first round playoff game against Baltimore Saturday. Or maybe they're talking about that ill-fated night when Nelson was allegedly out with Aaron Hernandez.
It doesn't appear to be an entirely pleasant conversation between the two, though. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis had to come by and intervene after a bit, and Nelson continued jawing with the Steelers coach.
Then Steelers defensive coach Joey Porter came by, and Nelson left. As our own Paper Champions wrote, I guess that tells us all we need to know about Nelson.
An otherwise competitive game between two good games was marred by the hit, and this scene certainly doesn't help anything. Bell is believed to have suffered a hyperextended knee, and Tomlin said afterward it didn't appear there was any structural damage.
Perhaps that wasn't the message Tomlin was extending to Nelson, though. Maybe a different kind of damage was being disussed.
