It was largely a defenseless battle between quarterbacks. And where the one of legend failed previously, he succeeded Saturday on his home turf.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had the last laugh against one of his personal adversaries in an AFC Divisional Playoff round win over the Baltimore Ravens. Brady hit Brandon LaFell on a beautiful 23-yard strike late in the fourth quarter, giving the Patriots a 35-31 lead.
Joe Flacco, having already thrown four touchdown passes in the game, led the Ravens inside Patriots territory, but a miss on a deep throw to wide receiver Torrey Smith was intercepted by Duron Harmon with over two minutes left in the game.
Baltimore would wisely wait until fourth down before calling their final timeout, forcing the Patriots to punt. They did, Jacoby Jones ran out of bounds, and Flacco's final heave was batted down at the goal line.
The Ravens and Patriots have met in the playoffs in three of the last four seasons, New England taking two of those three games, all in Foxboro. The Patriots will host the winner of the Indianapolis at Denver game Sunday.
