When the Pittsburgh Steelers promoted Anthony Chickillo to their active roster, it opened a spot on the practice squad. To make room for Chickillo on the 53-man roster, the team released DL Caushaud Lyons. If Lyons cleared waivers, it was obvious the Steelers wanted to keep him within their organization. That is exactly what happened Friday when the Steelers signed Lyons to the 10-man practice squad.

Lyons was an undrafted rookie free agent for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was released before teams had to trim their rosters to 53 players. The Steelers picked him up and added him to their active roster; however, Lyons never was activated on game day.
The Steelers depth chart and active roster will continue to change in the coming days as Martavis Bryant will be added to the team's roster, and another player will be forced to be released. A similar situation occurred after Week 2 when the Steelers released Tyler Murphy to make room for Le'Veon Bell as he returned to the team from suspension.
