The 6-5 Pittsburgh Steelers limped home after their dreadful 39-30 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 12, and now face the red hot Indianapolis Colts in Week 13 at Heinz Field. With both the Colts and Steelers sitting on a 6-5 record, this game has a great deal of significance for both teams when they square off on Sunday Night Football.
Despite what is on the line in the AFC Playoff Picture, who is favored early in this upcoming matchup is an interesting question. After being considered road underdogs in Week 12, the boys in black and gold return home as favorites against the Colts. The early odds show an opening line with the Steelers being 6-point favorites on Sunday, but several sport books have the Steelers spotting the Colts a full touchdown in this AFC grudge match.
The Steelers have rarely been favored by this large of a margin this season, largely due to big name injuries on the offensive side of the football, and a lot of this line will swing on the health of Ben Roethlisberger. With Roethlisberger in the lineup the Steelers have score 30 or more points the last three games. Without Roethlisberger, the team averages well below 25 points. If Roethlisberger, who left the Seattle game to go through the NFL's concussion protocol, is unable to play, expect the line to move dramatically as Landry Jones would be getting his third start of the 2015 season.
Either way you slice it, the Steelers will be home favorites when Matthew Hasselbeck and the Colts travel to Pittsburgh Sunday. The Steelers desperately need a victory to help their chances of making the postseason, and it will be interesting to see if the players play with desperation in the upcoming game. Nonetheless, right now, Vegas has the Steelers as heavy favorites in Week 13.
