The Pittsburgh Steelers lost control of their own playoff destiny when they lost to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16, but this doesn't mean their playoff hopes are dead. In fact, there are two scenarios which could have Pittsburgh punching their ticket to the postseason, and one of those scenarios hinges on the outcome of the Monday Night Football game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Denver Broncos.
The Bengals have already wrapped up the AFC North division title and a playoff berth, but the Broncos still need to win one of their last two games to secure a playoff spot. For the Steelers, they could find their way into the postseason if Denver somehow loses their final two games, and Pittsburgh defeats the Cleveland Browns in Week 17.
Yes, as much as it pains Steelers fans, Pittsburgh needs the Bengals to beat the Broncos in Denver for the first time, the Bengals are 0-9 all time in Mile High. If the Bengals, quarterbacked by AJ McCarron, are able to defeat Brock Osweiler and the No. 1 ranked Broncos defense, it would help the Steelers' odds of making the postseason.
If this scenario comes to fruition, the Steelers will be looking at Week 17 with two opportunities to make the postseason. Clearly, all scenarios hinge on Pittsburgh beating the Browns in Cleveland, but if the Bengals beat the Broncos the Steelers will be looking at two scoreboards in Week 17 to see if they can punch their ticket to the postseason.
Not only will they be watching the Broncos vs. San Diego Chargers game, but also to see if the Buffalo Bills could beat the New York Jets, which would also help result in making their postseason dreams come true. Both scenarios would have Pittsburgh making the playoffs, but their chances of making the postseason could hinge on two games, rather than one, if the Bengals beat the Broncos.
With that said, Steelers fans will be rooting for the Bengals in Week 16.
