Steelers FB Roosevelt Nix foot injury to require surgery, ending his season

The Pittsburgh Steelers lost more than a football game in Week 16 against the Baltimore Ravens. The foot injury to rookie FB Roosevelt Nix, described as a 'Fifth Metatarsal' by Mike Tomlin, will require surgery to put a pin in his foot -- ending his season.

The rookie fullback had seen his role on the team grow tremendously with the insertion of DeAngelo Williams at running back, as well as on special teams. Nix has shown a knack for finding the football on both punt and kickoff coverage teams, and has grown into his role as a lead blocker in crucial situations.

Although the foot injury will end his rookie season prematurely, his play has been a bright spot for the offense and especially for him as an individual, who was considered a "bubble" player just to make the team's 53-man roster. Nix clearly did that, and more, in 2015, and very well could be the team's fullback moving forward, possibly making Will Johnson expendable at season's end.
