NFL Playoff Scenario: Pittsburgh Steelers road to playoffs a one-way street

After the Cincinnati Bengals failed to hold off the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football, there is only one way the Steelers can make the postseason entering Week 17.

The Buffalo Bills now have a nation rooting for them in Week 17, and that nation would be none other than all of Steelers Nation across the globe. The reason for this new support from black and gold fans is due to the fact the Steelers' lone playoff scenario rides on the shoulders of Rex Ryan's team from upstate New York.

With the Cincinnati Bengals losing to the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football in Week 16, the road to the postseason for Pittsburgh has become a one-way street. Before the game, if the Broncos had lost their final two games, and the Steelers were able to beat the Cleveland Browns in Week 17, they would punch their ticket to the postseason.

However, with the Bengals dropping yet another prime time game, the Steelers lone hope relies on them beating the Browns, and the Bills. Here is the only scenario possible for Pittsburgh to make the postseason for back-to-back seasons:

Buffalo Bills defeat the New York Jets +
Steelers defeat the Browns =

Pittsburgh Steelers claim the 6th seed in the AFC Playoffs

While many Steelers fans have grown disgusted with their team after the disappointing loss in Week 16 to the Baltimore Ravens, the nature of the NFL makes this playoff scenario far from impossible. Clearly, the Steelers need to handle their own business in Cleveland, but the chance of the Bills pulling off an upset at home against AFC East division rivals, with many coaches and players jobs possibly on the line, is far from impossible.

Both the Steelers vs. Browns game and the Jets vs. Bills game will be played at 1:00 p.m. EDT. By 4:30 p.m. EDT fans will know the fate of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
