UPDATE: The Ravens have released Bernard Pierce following his DUI arrest Wednesday morning.
The Baltimore Ravens recently re-signed running back Justin Forsett to a new contract, which turned out to be a great move as back-up running back Bernard Pierce was arrested for DUI on Wednesday morning according to Baltimore County police.
Pierce had a lackluster 2014 season rushing for 366 yards on 93 carries with 2 touchdowns, but will now be facing discipline from the league office under the new substance abuse policy. As Pittsburgh Steelers fans have learned throughout the ongoing Le'Veon Bell DUI charges, the suspension could range from 1-4 games.
Forsett was the workhorse for the Ravens running attack in 2014, which won't make Pierce's short absence this season worth much note, but considering the history the Ravens have had with running backs and discipline issues, the team might take a much harsher stance than one would think.
The Ravens released the following statement regarding the arrest: "We are aware of the situation and learning more about it," a team spokesman said. "We take these matters seriously."
