Pittsburgh Steelers sign QB Tajh Boyd

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed competition for Landry Jones for the backup QB role behind Ben Roethlisberger. That competition is coming in the form of former Clemson University QB Tajh Boyd, who was signed Friday to the team's offseason roster.

Boyd was drafted in the 6th round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, but failed to make the team's final roster. Following his release he decided to play for the Fall Experimental Football League, and was shown interest from the Detroit Lions prior to being signed by Pittsburgh.

The signing reunites Boyd and his college teammate Matravis Bryant for a brief time as Boyd will look to solidify his spot on the team's roster by most likely beating out Jones in Spring workouts and training camp.

After Roethlisberger, the Steelers have Bruce Gradkowski as their immediate backup through the 2015 season, but after Gradkowski is where Boyd looks to make his mark within the Steelers' organization and making a 53-man roster for the first time in his short NFL career.
