Around the NFL: From the Patriots to the Jets, what's going on with other teams?

As I've said before, the Pittsburgh Steelers are not like the Harlem Globetrotters. They are part of a league, and that league has 31 other teams. What are some of these other organizations up to?

Geno Smith Sucker Punched: Out 6-10 Weeks

In one of the more bizarre, and sad, stories of the preseason, Jets QB Geno Smith was punched so hard in the locker room by LB IK Enemkpali that his jaw shattered. He will be out for 6-10 weeks. IK Enemkpali was released.

Cardinals OT Bobby Massie Suspended

The Arizona Cardinals player was just suspended three games as punishment for violating the substance abuse policy. The Steelers do not play the Cardinals until week six.

Tom Brady Deflategate Appeal Still Underway

Judge Richard Berman, randomly assigned to the Tom Brady appeal- in contrast to Roger Goodell who assigned himself "neutral" arbitrator"-- is pressuring the NFLPA and the NFL to come to an agreement about Brady's suspension. This puts the NFL in an awkward position since a settlement could encourage players in similar predicaments to take the matter to court, a move that could begin to limit some of Roger Goodell's power.

As things stand, the NFL expects Berman to agree with the legality of the Brady suspension while the union wants to block the suspension.

What does this mean for the Steelers? It is still possible Brady will be on the field for the first game, but I would imagine that if a settlement is reached it would not involve a complete reduction.

Philadelphia Eagles Give Up Brandon Boykin in Very Lopsided Trade

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Obviously, the Steelers were the benefactors of this arrangement, and based on Boykin's performance in the first preseason game, the deal worked very much in the Steelers favor. Meanwhile Eagles rookie CB JaCorey Shepherd tore his ACL over the weekend, so they are in the market for a slot corner.

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith to Retire after 2015 Season

Steve Smith's long career will be coming to an end after this season in order to spend more time with his family. Though the Ravens are our biggest AFC North rivals, it is hard not to respect a guy who has his priorities in order. At 36, Smith will have played 15 seasons in the NFL, 13 of which were with the Carolina Panthers.

Johnny Manziel Has a Sore Elbow

With all the news about his personal life out there, I thought I'd include a nice, neutral article about a little pain the Cleveland Browns QB is experiencing in his elbow. He's resting the "injury," and will be back on the field soon. Manziel is No. 2 behind Josh McCown.

Bengals Working Out with the Giants

The Cincinnati Bengals and New York Giants are doing a joint workout together. The last time the Giants practiced with a team it was the with Jets. Last week, there was a joint practice between the Washington Redskins and the Houston Texans. The two teams came to blows several times, which was televised on ESPN.

If you had to pick a team for the Steelers to practice with, which would it be?
