Before the 2015 regular season began, the Pittsburgh Steelers picked up a new cornerback. That cornerback was second year defensive back Ross Cockrell, who spent the preseason and training camp with the Buffalo Bills before being released when rosters were cut to 53-players.
The Steelers didn't just pick up a player who had serious potential, but a player who saw significant time for the Steelers this season. Due to the potential and experience, the Steelers have extended Ross Cockrell with a one-year contract, keeping him in Pittsburgh for at least another season.
Cockrell was an Exclusive Rights Free Agent (ERFA), and the contract is certainly one of the "show me" variety where the Steelers want to see him perform well after being in the system for the second year before talking about a long-term contract.

The contract to Cockrell wasn't the only signing for the Steelers Friday. They also signed QB Dustin Vaughn to a Reserve/Future contract for the 2016 season.
