The Pittsburgh Steelers are riding a wave of momentum after back-to-back wins over the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets in Weeks 4 and 5, but Ben Roethlisberger might be on his own personal wave after those performances too. In those two weeks Roethlisberger has thrown 9 touchdown passes and over 600 yards.
For this reason, Roethlisberger was named the FedEx Air Player of the Week winner for Week 5. His 4 touchdown, 380 yard performance against New York was good enough to beat out Tom Brady of the New England Patriots and Philip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers for the weekly award.
What is unique about this award is it doesn't just become another feather in the players' caps, but FedEx donates $2,000 to the USO for winning the award. Roethlisberger isn't the first Steelers player to win the award. DeAngelo Williams was named the FedEx Ground Player of the Week winner after his Week 1 performance against the Washington Redskins.
With the offensive fire power the Steelers have, here is to hoping Pittsburgh does their part to bring more money to the worthy cause the USO provides to all of our service men and women every day.
