There is a good chance the geniuses at Las Vegas sports books had the same reaction to the news of Ben Roethlisberger's knee injury as fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers. In what should have been a marquee matchup between the New England Patriots and Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady, Mike Tomlin and Bill Belichick...instead fans are going to watch Landry Jones under center.
Face...meet palm.
Believe it or not, when this game's odds were first released, the Patriots were 2-point favorites on the road at Heinz Field, but when it was announced Roethlisberger would undergo surgery, and miss the game, the line sky rocketed. As of Tuesday evening, the Patriots are anywhere from 7 to 8-point favorites on the road.
That number might seem small to some, but for the Steelers at Heinz Field, that number is huge. With the Steelers getting the usual 2.5 to 3-point nudge for home field advantage, it makes the Patriots double-digit favorites in this matchup.
For those considering where to put their money, Vegas is certainly making the Patriots the attractive pick. Shockingly the spread isn't double-digits, but Vegas must believe the Steelers, even with Jones under center, will be able to keep things close.
This is a tough game to call, but if you feel the Steelers can keep it close, or pull off a monumental upset, you might want to head to the window before the line changes!
