The Pittsburgh Steelers offseason workouts are officially underway with the first day of their rookie minicamp in the books. Rookie minicamp is far different from other organized activities like OTAs and training camp, mainly trying to get the new players acclimated to the way of life as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
What also begins in these workouts is pure desperation. The majority of the players working out Friday thru Sunday will not be there when they break training camp at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. Playing like nothing is guaranteed can be a tremendous motivator, at least for those who weren't drafted in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Take a look at some of the sights and sounds from the first day of the team's rookie minicamp:
A lot of people have criticized the team's selection of Artie Burns in the first round of the Draft; however, I doubt many will criticize his lack of Steelers history. Sometimes it is good not to remember history...
Fans should probably simmer down on the high expectations for the team's top two draft picks, but at least there is hope for the future.
Don't get too excited Steelers fans. Was just 1st practice of rookie minicamp. But there are 2 long, lean, fluid athletes in the secondary.— James C Wexell (@jimwexell) May 6, 2016
7th Round draft pick, and recent signee of his first NFL contract, Tyler Matakavich, thinks he is a perfect fit for the Steelers defense as an inside linebacker.

"Yes, sir. See the ball, go get the ball."
