The Pittsburgh Steelers were victorious in Week 1 of the 2016 regular season, defeating the Washington Redskins 38-16, but they had a few bumps and bruises along the way. Following the game head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media Tuesday to answer questions and preview the Cincinnati Bengals, but also to update the injury status of several key players.
Mike Tomlin did not have an update on the knee injury Ryan Shazier suffered last week. He mentioned Shazier's personal optimism towards the injury, but also stated he would allow the medical professionals decide his availability for Week 2. Shazier was seeing a doctor Tuesday, and the team could release a statement later.
While that doesn't make any fan sleep better at night, there is hope some of the players who missed Week 1 could be available to them in Week 2. Cody Wallace (knee), Markus Wheaton (shoulder) and Roosevelt Nix (back) are all capable of returning to the team this Sunday, but they are all listed as day-to-day and will be monitored accordingly.
The Steelers now turn their attention to the Bengals coming to Heinz Field on a short week. Although the official injury status of both Pittsburgh and Cincinnati's roster is still unknown, the two teams will certainly be without two superstars as both Le'Veon Bell and Vontaze Burfict will miss the game due to their own three-game suspensions.
The Steelers and Bengals kickoff will be at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
