Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams wins FedEx Ground Player of the Week award

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams won the FedEx Ground Player of the Week Award, winning more than just name recognition.

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

It seems fitting that Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams would win the FedEx Ground Player of the Week Award. This after his 143 yard, two touchdown performance against the Washington Redskins - at none other thanFedEx Field.

Williams won the first of the weekly awards, voted on by fans, given to the best running back in the league. They also have a FedEx Air Player of the Week award, which was won this week by Jameis Winston of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Winston threw for 281 yards and 4 touchdowns in their win over the Atlanta Falcons.

What makes these awards unique? The players don't just get name recognition and some proverbial hardware, they also have a $2,000 donation sent to the USO in the players' names.

So, I hope the USO likes getting checks from the NFL in the names of Pittsburgh Steelers, after the season is over there is a good chance the team will be donating well over $10,000 between Ben Roethlisberger, Le'Veon Bell and Williams.
